Food or poison?
This choice is very clear cut. Who would feed their child poison? Not environmentally conscious Tanya, that’s for sure. She is so eco-friendly that she even worries about micro-plastics in her milk as she feeds her baby while her wife, away on a business trip, chats to her online trying to soothe her fears. Meanwhile the baby flushes a load of wipes down the toilet, but there’s not much that can be done about that, right? There’ll be no consequences, just let it go and move on.
If there’s anything we learned from Lusus’ first episode it’s that your deepest worries will manifest in a way more chilling than you could ever have imagined.
There’s roadworks at the end of the road and they’re busy removing a fatberg. With its eerie semi-realism, shocks and twists, it’s so hard to know what’s real and what’s terrifying fantasy, but we start to pick up the thread of a connection as there are references to the events of the opening episode. I find myself both hooked and scared in equal measure, as this audio drama delivers on its creepy promise.
Verdict: You don’t have to be a parent for this episode’s nightmare fuel to catch fire. 8/10
