Sisters are slaying it for themselves.
Maya the freshly-minted vampire is now on the run with Rose. They’re running from unknown vampire clans (whose side they’re on is unclear) and law enforcement, thanks to Maya’s poor dining etiquette.
There’s some comeuppance in store and some answers, as we learn that vampires can become sperm donors and that Rose’s installation as Gully the vampire-human hybrid child’s nanny was indeed no coincidence.
What I find particularly well sown throughout are the glimpses of vampire lor this works establishes. Females and males tend to be separate and clan-allegiance drives everything… hence the fact that some of the males were keen to destroy Gully and some keen to save him. This is too intriguing and I’m going to need a second series, a book trilogy and a TV or film adaptation please and thank you.
Brilliantly, there’s another twist in the very last act as the powerful heritage of Rose and her mother comes to the fore – the female of the species is most definitely more deadly than the male and I’m here for it.
I had so many questions going into this final instalment but most are tied up and yet more are left open with a nail-biting cliff-hanger that begs for more.
Verdict: Original and thrilling storytelling… is this just the beginning of Rose’s journey? 9/10
