Professor Disco leaves the ship unexpectedly, telling everyone not to follow him… But can he be left to his own devices?

Confessions of a Caged Computer feels like an appropriate alternate title for this third instalment of Jonathan Morris’ sci-fi spoof – with a particularly well-named effect at the heart of the story. We’re very much in the realm of the original Star Trek pilot, The Cage – incorporated into the main show as the backstory to the two-part story The Menagerie – with the sexual tension between Dick and Gina coming to the fore (ahem!) when they’re captured by aliens with a very particular agenda.

There’s more focus on Dick, Gina and the professor than those left on board (although they get quite a few good jokes), and there’s a serious side to this that Terry Molloy in particular ensures comes out – the period-appropriate “we know better” approach leads to a heartfelt attack on the other characters’ legitimacy. We get the familiar straight playing of the double entendres and the twisted dialogue – and there’s a particularly “eww” moment that puts a certain hair gel scene in the shade.

Verdict: Another fun trip for Dick. What will come up for him next? 7/10
