A few weeks back, director and actual Gollum Andy Serkis confirmed Aragorn was being re-cast for the upcoming The Hunt for Gollum, reports Alasdair Stuart. Almost immediately, rumours began circling about who would get the role, with Leo Woodall front and centre. Nothing concrete was released, and, honestly, still hasn’t been. However, Elijah Wood, who must surely be the premier graduate of the Brian Blessed School of NDAs Being Something Other People Worry About may have just confirmed it.
On a recent episode of The Happy Sad Confused podcast, Wood was asked by host Josh Horowitz if the rumours of Leo Woodall being cast were true and how Woodall would deal with the pressures of the role. Here’s Wood’s reply: ‘Right. That is true. Those are true. That is…tough boots, man. That is tough. I can’t image. But that’s gonna be great.’
Which is as definitive as we’ll get outside an announcement. But given Wood also all but confirmed he’s back, and now speaks from an apparent position of authority, I believe him.
Woodall’s career is about six years old, but he’s always impressive. He’s excellent in the recent Nuremberg, charming in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and has had memorable turns in the White Lotus, God help him Citadel and Vladimir. He’s also taking Harry Potter money for a role in the upcoming audio editions which is going to be an entirely understandable deal breaker for a lot of folks. If you aren’t one of them, take a look at the trailer for Tuner below. Not genre specific, but Woodall has a very Mortensenonian presence that bodes well.
The Hunt for Gollum is in pre production now and releases next year.
