Alasdair Stuart provides an update on the next potential Star Trek series…
Strange New Worlds has wrapped filming even though there are still two seasons in post-production. As production neared its end, executive producers Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers began hinting they’d like to ‘just keep going’ into original Star Trek. And trekmovie.com just got a very intriguing update about that. Because Star Trek: Year One has officially been pitched. Myers said: ‘Yeah, we we’ve brought them a lot. We’ve done a lot to give to them. It’s in their hands right now. They’re taking a look at it, trying to decide it. I mean, there’s a lot of love for our show over there, and obviously a lot of love for Star Trek.”
This by itself is both good news and no news. Star Trek: Legacy, the proposed show following Captain Seven aboard the new Enterprise, was supposedly pitched and never went anywhere (aside from comics, which we’re looking forward to) while Scott Bakula’s mooted President Archer show continues to trundle along in something like possible development. These things don’t go until we know they do, or until we see studio space being rented. And…about that…
“Well, our sets have not been destroyed yet. That is what I can say…”
Myers confirming the sets, as of publication, are still standing is Not Nothing given Strange New Worlds wrapped weeks ago. Once again, we won’t know until we know. But, for now, those sets still being up is a big plus. One of the reasons Legacy supposedly didn’t launch was the sets were destroyed before the pitch was in, adding impractical start-up costs. Without those, perhaps, just perhaps. a new version of Kirk’s Enterprise may be boldly going soon after all…
