The final appearance of Marcus Gilbert’s Ancelyn has been released by Big Finish today.

Angela Bruce and the late Marcus Gilbert star in UNIT – Brave New World: Knightfall, a brand-new box set of full-cast audio drama, available now.

The late-twentieth-century UNIT team return today in Knightfall, comprising three exciting episodes of interdimensional audio adventure.

At the end of their previous box set, June 2025’s Fractures, Brigadier Bambera (Angela Bruce) and her team – including Dr Louise Rix (Yemisi Oyinloye) and Sergeant Jean-Paul Savarin (Alex Jordan) – had fought off a number of threats from alternative worlds, only for another rift in space to open up, leading to Camelot…

This mystical realm, teased in the 1989 Doctor Who TV story Battlefield, is the setting for the team’s latest adventures. There’s a dangerous threat in the form of Queen Guinevere (Genevieve Gaunt) and her army, but for Bambera, there’s also an emotional reunion with her lost husband Ancelyn (Marcus Gilbert).

This box set features the final performance of Marcus Gilbert, who originally played Ancelyn back in 1989, and reprised the role in these episodes, recorded before he sadly passed away in January this year.

Producer Alfie Shaw said: “I only met Marcus during the three days we shared together in studio. He was charming, witty and kind. It was a privilege to spend that short amount of time with him. It was clear how much affection he and Angela had for each other, and their joy at being reunited and getting to work together again was the highlight of those recording days.”

On the day of recording, Angela Bruce reflected on her audio reunion with Marcus Gilbert: “It’s been amazing, a rather special day. It’s continuing from that time when Ancelyn went off and left Bambera, and exploring what happened next. It gets emotional just seeing him again, and it’s wonderful writing to bring this together and finish this love story between two worlds. Love transcends all, and that’s quite wonderful.

“Working on this story, there’s been a lot of laughter, a lot of joy. But then there’s a time when I’m outside, sitting with Marcus, desperately trying to drink in, what’s happened to you since I last saw you? How are you? You connect into it, and it’s that moment where you just pick up the hat and you start again, it’s wonderful. I’m very grateful for that friendship.”

The guest cast of Knightfall includes Victoria Yeates as Nimue, Lucy-Jane Quinlan as Ninianne, Anita Adam Gabay as Vivianne, Nicholas Cowell as Arawn/Bleoberis, and Lorne MacFadyen as Sergeant Jack McManis.
