Iron Lung opens this week, and it’s had a unique journey to the screen, reports Alasdair Stuart. Adapted from the video game of the same name created by David Szymanski, it follows a convict sent to explore an ocean of blood on a desolate moon. He’s alone in a badly designed submarine nicknamed the Iron Lung. Or, he hopes he is…

The movie features Mark Fischbach in the lead and Seán McLoughlin among the cast members, who also include Szymanski, Caroline Rose Kaplan and voice acting legend Troy Baker. Hofstetter, McLoughlin and Fischbach are all best known as YouTubers, specialising in gaming.

Before the Logan Paul siren goes off, don’t worry. These folks are smart, focused people who do good work, Fischbach and McLoughlin especially as their YouTube alter egos Markiplier and Jacksepticeye. I’m playing Dispatch now and McLoughlin’s in that and is great. It’s an interesting, fun talent pool and one that’s largely put the movie together itself, with Fischbach self-financing the movie. As well as writing, directing, starring and editing it.

That’s a lot, and it’s been well enough received that it’s on international release this week! And it looks pretty fun! If I can get to a screening nearby, I’d love to see it. In the meantime, with warnings for blood (80,000 gallons apparently) here’s the trailer.
