The producers of Strange New Worlds have often said that the show is designed to lead into the first year of James T. Kirk as Captain of the Enterprise, and the series has seen his command crew begin to acrete around him.

The official Star Trek Facebook feed has now confirmed that Thomas Jane will apear as Leonard “Bones” McCoy and Kai Murakami will play Hikaru Sulu in the final episode of the shortened fifth season, which recently wrapped in Toronto. They join Paul Wesley’s Kirk, Ethan Peck’s Spock, Martin Quinn’s Scotty, Celia Rose Gooding’s Uhura and Jess Bush’s Christine Chapel.

Season 4 of Strange New Worlds is expected in 2026, with the six episode Season 5 in 2027.
