Following the release of Gareth David-Lloyd’s Salvage today, Big Finish’s Torchwood line is taking a break.
The latest instalment in the regular Torchwood range focuses on an important asset to the Cardiff-based team – their trusty SUV. But years after Torchwood 3 was torn apart, the car sits neglected in a junkyard. Enter teenage twins Esther (Carlie Enoch) and Cody (Dewi Wykes). Having escaped from their care home, they’re trying to reach their family in Wales. When they stumble upon the SUV, they find it determined to return to Cardiff in search of its old colleagues. And so this mismatched gang head out on a road trip. But the nasty scrap merchant Jed (Kirris Rivieré) is on their tail…
David-Lloyd explained his unusual inspiration: “This episode was inspired by a photograph of the original Torchwood SUV that somebody posted online – it was looking very sad on some farmland somewhere, covered in dents and rust and alien spores, aka moss. I felt really sorry for it. I thought, I want to give the SUV one last road trip, one last opportunity to save the day.
“And then I thought, what would it be like to make a couple of youngsters involuntary Torchwood members for a short period of time? Since all the original Torchwood team are gone, let’s give these two kids the opportunity to go on the adventure with the SUV, become heroes in their own right, and find themselves.”
No further releases have been announced for the line; Big FInish note: “Stand by for further Torchwood news, coming soon.”
