The first trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has been released and it looks to take everything from the first movie up a couple of notches. Here’s what Alasdair Stuart found.

0.07 – Arthur C. Clarke

The narration is from renowned SF author Arthur C. Clarke and first appeared in a 1964 episode of the BBC science show, Horizon. It’s a really smart thematic link, and update, to the use of Rudyard Kipling in the first trailer. I wonder, if we get the third movie, whether the narration will be from the ’80s or 90s?

0.08 – Crows over the temple

A brief shot of unusual crow flights over the temple. Nature is apparently a major part of the movie and I’m curious to see how that gets explored.

0.27 – Kelson living in a train

Ralph Fiennes’ Doctor Kelson is clearly a major part of this movie and it’s implied heavily that he’s living on the train carriage we see in flashbacks.

0.31 – Fuel tank?

Or is it a fuel tank? Look at the walls, they seem very curved and uniform.

0.33 – Books

Kelson’s shelves are full of medical and foraging texts which makes sense and provides welcome context for him and his survival.

0.41 – Kelson and Samson

Kelson and Samson face off again but there’s something different about this. It’s implied Kelson hasn’t tranquilised him and yet Samson isn’t attacking.

0.47 – Samson seems to want something

And this is where things get Interesting. Chi Lewis Parry does this amazing thing with his eyes where Samson is trying to communicate under the Rage. Is this about the baby? And do he and Kelson become friends?

0.56 – Not Jamie

We see this chap a lot through the trailer and at first glance he seems shot to look like Jamie. As you’ll see later, he isn’t but it does seem to be a deliberate choice.

1.05 – Attack

We see the Jimmys attack and torture a group of survivors in the manner that Spike and Jamie discovered the aftermath of in the first movie. Spike doesn’t seem to be with them here but as we’ll see, he’s very much part of the gang and not sure how he feels about it.

1.12 – Erin Kellyman

Genre stalwart Erin Kellyman! Brilliant in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Han Solo, Willow and everything else I’ve seen them in. Very excited to see them cut loose here. Also note how this scene and her reaction is scored perfectly to Clarke saying ‘will cease to make any sense’. Also note she’s holding binoculars like she doesn’t know how to use them and she’s covered in scars including an upside down cross in the middle of her forehead.

1.19 – Jimmys at the temple

Given what we know about the Temple and its sad, kind purpose, the Jimmys being there just seems viscerally wrong.

1.21 – Is that Jamie?

This is the chap we see earlier, being stalked by Samson. He looks incredibly like Jamie but as we see, he’s someone new. Who’s having a very bad day.

1.23 – Jimmys burning people

The Jimmys seem to revel in hurting people. If my theory is right, this is them burning the residents of the farm they set up shop in.

1.23 – Who?

The new couple we see a couple of times in the trailer. Look closely and you’ll see they’re being pursued by one person. Keep watching and we’ll see how he connects to the man we just saw Samson kill.

1.25 – Clearer look at Spike with the hair

Spike is very definitely part of the Jimmys and as we can see, isn’t happy about that. Also, he doesn’t seem to have the cross scar…

1.27 – Kelson and Jimmy Crystal

I love this shot of Kelson with Jimmy Crystal out of focus behind him but prowling the temple.

1.32 – Mystery couple at gate

The mystery couple we see get pursued by the woods, who at first glance, look remarkably like a non Jimmy’d Jack O’Connell and Erin Kellyman. We get a good look at them here and they seem to be entirely new characters.

1.34 – Same gate other side

It seems like the Jimmys set up in a farm with a defensible fence. Here we see Spike drawing an arrow on something on the other side of the fence. It doesn’t seem to be the couple though.

1.37 – Dead bodies. Samson victim, Pursuer

The chap pursuing the mysterious couple seems to turn here. Note Samson’s victim at his feet and someone else just visible out of shot.

1.39 – Recently dead. Not dead yet.

We keep returning to what seems to be the same train carriage and here we see some recently dead (and clean) bodies and someone emerging from under them. Is this a flashback?

1.48 – Jimmy vs Spike?

It goes by quickly, but this looks a lot like Lord Jimmy Crystal holding a knife to Spike’s mouth.

1.48 – Kelson?!

Given the trailer opens with Kelson and Samson apparently finding some means of communication, it certainly seems to close with Kelson being infected and embracing the Rage virus. It’s not quite certain but the build, dress and hair all look a lot like Kelson and it’s thematically perfect. The Jimmys have been maimed by their world. Kelson, even here, finds a way to live with it and make something new.

1.51 – Ring of fire

It’s hard to see but there are four people in the ring of fire. One looks a lot like Kelson from the last shot, and three appear to be Jimmys.

28 Days, Weeks and Years Later are all available to stream and the first two are available on disc. 28 Years Later follows them later this month. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will release on 6th January 2026.
