The TV future of Doctor Who may be uncertain, but Big Finish continue to cater to fans’ tastes, with a couple of special releases for later this year.

The TARDIS has a habit of landing the Doctor in the midst of scary situations, and this October’s Halloween box set will include some of the spookiest adventures yet. The Doctor and UNIT will encounter terrifying new adversaries, from mind-infesting creatures to a monster inhabiting a deep, dark cave.

And then, Big Finish listeners will be treated to not one Doctor Who Christmas special, but four! From an English village in 1962 to an asteroid on the edge of a great war, Yuletide is celebrated in many forms across time and space – but beneath the snow and the tinsel, there is danger to be confronted.

The four spooky Halloween stories are:

Sea Smoke – a First Doctor and Dodo adventure by Jonathan Sims

Party Favours – a Kate Stewart and Osgood adventure by Georgia Cook

Bramble King – an Eighth Doctor and Audacity adventure by Noga Flaishon

Merlin’s Trap – a Twelfth Doctor adventure by Hannah Kennedy

The cast of this box set includes Stephen Noonan as the First Doctor, Lauren Cornelius as Dodo, Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Ingrid Oliver as Osgood, Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, and Jaye Griffiths as Audacity.

Sea Smoke and Other Stories also includes the Big Finish debut of writers Jonathan Sims (known for popular horror podcast, The Magnus Archives) and BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Prize winner Hannah Kennedy.

And the four festive Christmas tales are:

Unholy Night – a Missy adventure by Noga Flaishon

Legacy of Blood – a Sixth Doctor and Leela adventure by Julian Richards

Presents of Mind – a Smith and Sullivan adventure by Mark Wright

It’s a Wonderful War – a Time War-era Eighth Doctor adventure by Jonathan S Powell

The cast of It’s a Wonderful War and Other Stories includes Michelle Gomez as Missy, Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, Louise Jameson as Leela, Sadie Miller as Sarah Jane Smith, Christopher Naylor as Harry Sullivan, John Leeson as K9, Annette Badland as Aunt Lavinia, Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, and Nicholas Briggs as the Daleks.

Halloween producer Noga Flaishon said: “Horror is my bread and butter and getting to work on it with the Big Finish team and some horrifying new writers like Jonathan Sims, Georgia Cook and Hannah Kennedy was a joy. Giving writers like them the brief ‘make it scary’ and letting them run is a rare delight in this industry. I think we’ve created something truly bone-chilling.”

And, Christmas producer Jonathan S Powell said: “Big Finish Doctor Who audio dramas have long been a big part of the Christmas season, so I was thrilled to keep that tradition alive.
