Big Finish’s reimagining of Kenneth Johnson’s V – developed in collaboration with the creator – continues in August with Occupation.
It’s three months since the Visitors arrived on Earth, and humanity is struggling under their fascist grip. Collaborators and black marketeers are only adding to the problems. But there is hope in the form of the resistance…
While the first volume, Visitation, was an adaptation of the original TV miniseries, Occupation expands the world of V – UK into new territory – all with input from the TV show’s creator Kenneth Johnson.
Several characters return from the first volume, including Mike Donovan (Jack Myers), Juliet Parrish (Annabel Baldwin) and Robin Maxwell (Hannah Brown). And many new faces join the fray, including Willy, a fan-favourite character from the original TV series, now voiced by impressionist and regular star of Big Finish’s Doctor Who ranges Jon Culshaw.
The three new hour-long instalments in the V – UK story are:
Part Four by James Swallow
It is now January, three months since the Visitors’ arrival. Elwyn, a black marketeer, has been profiting from the shortages, while his brother Brenin, a doctor, has been recruited to the resistance.
Part Five by Eddie Robson
February, and the resistance have discovered what the Visitors are doing with all the people transported at night from Eleanor’s chemical plant. They set out to get footage – as a romance between Visitor Willy and burger van owner Harmony blossoms.
Part Six by Lisa McMullin
It’s now March. Mike is determined to get into the Visitor mothership, but to do that he needs the help of collaborator Eleanor. Meanwhile Robin has realised she is pregnant with a Visitor’s child and has some difficult choices to make.
The box set’s cast also includes Louise Faulkner as Kathleen Maxwell, Andrew James Spooner as Richard Maxwell, Sam Stafford as Brian, Abigail Cruttenden as Eleanor Dupres, Harriet Kershaw as Harmony Moore, and Tom Kiteley as Elwyn Taylor, with further names to be announced.
Producer Jonathan Morris said: “It’s now three months since the Visitors arrived – and life has changed. There are petty criminals exploiting the shortages of food and medicine, like Elwyn Taylor. There are those willing to collaborate to preserve their social status, like chemical plant owner Eleanor Dupres.
“And there are even romances – Robin and the charming young Visitor officer Brian, and Harmony and the bumbling but well-meaning Visitor technician Willy. Not all these stories end well. Meanwhile, the resistance finally find out the Visitors’ real reason for coming to Earth…
“With these three episodes, the story moves into darker territory, as V – UK explores the nature of those who choose to resist, and those who choose to collaborate.”
Creator Kenneth Johnson added: “Jonathan Morris and his entire team of writers, actors, music and sound artists are doing a splendid job of capturing in their excellent audio productions the essence of what I created in the original four-hour miniseries.
“It’s particularly delightful to have the character of Willy back onboard. Robert Englund, who originally played the character, has said repeatedly how Willy was pivotal in jump-starting his very successful career. Willy was one of my favourites and continues to be – courtesy of Big Finish.”
