Supermarionation series Nebula-75, which began during lockdown, has been added to the National Film Archives by the British Film Institute as part of their Our Screen Heritage programme.

The puppet series, created by Stephen La Rivière and Andrew T. Smith, part of the team behind the 50th anniversary episodes of Thunderbirds, continues the tradiition of the early series from Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.

Co-creator Stephen La Rivière told SFB: “Nebula-75 was born out of limitations. The characters and scenarios grew out of the limitations of lockdown, the limitations of crew size, and the limitations of the size of our living room. It’s therefore been a never-ending source of amazement that it has repeatedly broken through those limitations – from early media coverage, to a theatrical dubbed release in Japan, to now being considered worthy of officially preserving in the National Film Archives by the British Film Institute as part of their Our Screen Heritage programme. Lockdown was a deeply difficult time for many, and it’s nice to know that there were many who were happy to get away from it all with Ray Neptune, Doctor Asteroid, Athena, & Circuit 33 million miles away.”
