American actor Robert Trebor, best known to genre fans for playing Salmoneus in Hercules and Xena, has died aged 71.

Trebor became well known for his portrayal of David Berkowitz, the serial killer Son of Sam. His other genre appearances included Woody Allen’s The Purple Rose of Cairo, My Demon Lover, Universal Soldier, and The Shadow.

He also wrote Dear Salmoneus: The World’s First Guide to Love and Money, as well as a satire of Donald Trump.

On a personal note, Bob Trebor was one of the first people I got to know when working in Hollywood (an early interview for the official Xena magazine is reprinted here), and he remained a firm friend, sending encouraging messages through my own illness.
