The Weeping Angels are coming for Sylvester McCoy’s Doctor in this summer’s release, Past Forward.
The Doctor’s adventures with Harry and Naomi are coming to an end, as a new companion arrives… so don’t blink!
The next box set in The Seventh Doctor Adventures comprises three episodes, which mark an important point in the ongoing story for McCoy’s incarnation of the Time Lord.
The Doctor has been travelling with Harry Sullivan (Christopher Naylor) and Naomi Cross (Eleanor Crooks) for some time now – as part of a time-twisting story arc that also saw the two companions travel with the Fourth Doctor and work with UNIT. Their time together will soon reach an end, but the Doctor won’t be alone for long…
In The Seventh Doctor Adventures: Past Forward, another face from his past will join him for future travels – Ray (Sara Griffiths). This motorbike enthusiast was first seen in 1987 TV story Delta and the Bannermen and more recently found travelling with the Doctor in Classic Doctors New Monsters: Faithful Friends.
Of her return as Ray, Sara Griffiths said: “To have this opportunity to rejoin Doctor Who, to reconnect with Sylvester and then have these incredible scripts, it genuinely is one of the loveliest things that’s happened in my career. The writers have completely reminded, reinstated and then shown this way forward with Ray, and her dynamic with the Doctor, that I can feel so clearly.”
But it’ll take everything the Doctor and his three friends have to deal with a universe-threatening danger – the Weeping Angels…
The three episodes in the box set are:
With the Angels, Part 1 by John Dorney
When the Doctor’s latest attempt to return Harry and Naomi home goes awry, they find themselves recruited by UNIT for a special mission. A mission involving a new and terrifying breed of Weeping Angel. Amid betrayal and manipulation, the Doctor and friends are trapped by a destiny they can’t escape. The future is calling… and so is the past.
Catastrophix by Lizzie Hopley
Harry Sullivan and Naomi Cross are on Earth at two different points in a timeline that has gone badly wrong. Back in his own time with UNIT, Harry is in the Lake District, unaware of the horrors to come. Four decades on, Naomi is adrift on an ocean in an apocalyptic nightmare. What is causing the Earth’s unnatural end? As the Doctor scours the years, he meets a face from the past with the tools to help – a mechanic called Ray.
With the Angels, Part 2 by John Dorney
A billionaire’s birthday party on a super-yacht is the setting for the final battle with the Angels. And the Doctor is on the guest list. The Bladukas family have no idea how dangerous these creatures are. But they’re about to find out. Can an old friend help the Doctor prevent a tragedy?
Script editor Matt Fitton said: “Past Forward is a pivotal story in the Seventh Doctor’s lifetime, as he says goodbye to two friends and hello to one more – but not necessarily in that order! We have a four-part story enveloping a two-parter, as Harry and Naomi’s TARDIS travels come to an end in a timey-wimey fashion that befits their ongoing story. Along the way, the Doctor runs into a face from his past, someone who perhaps was always destined to be his companion…
“I’ve been looking at how we might reintroduce Ray to the Doctor for quite a while now, but couldn’t pin down the practicalities of using the character. At last, however, the stars have aligned and we can welcome Sara Griffiths back to Doctor Who. I’ve chatted with her about Ray’s new direction and what she might have been up to in the intervening years, and we have plans… So yes, Ray the mechanic is back, some 20 years after Delta and The Bannermen – still revving her bike into adventure!”
