William Russell, who played one of the very first companions on Doctor Who, has died aged 99.
Russell – who also worked as Russell Enoch – played Ian Chesterton from the first episode up to The Chase, and then reprised the role for BBC Video and Big Finish before making a cameo at the end of The Power of the Doctor. His other genre work inckuded as one of the judges in Superman: The Movie and a cameo in Mark Gatiss’ An Adventure in Space and Time.
