Sir Anthony Hopkins is to star in an updated version of HG Wells’ The Island of Dr Moreau, Eyes in the Trees.

In the new movie, Hopkins will play a geneticist who has been isolated after the government stopped funding his research following the violent outbreak of one of his test subjects. Later, two renowned filmmakers and their crew embark on a journey of discovery, only to find their excursion turned into a fight for survival for not just themselves, but the entire human race. The script is by B. Harrison Smith and Mike Manning with Timothy Woodward Jr directing.

There have been numerous literary updates of Wells’ 1896 story in recent years including this one by Jonathan Barnes.

  1. Anthony Hopkins can be quite an intriguing casting choice for Dr. Moreau as Marlon Brando was. But after the Brando version, I’ve not cared much for this H. G. Wells classic, despite its appreciable claim to fame. So whether or not I decide to see this new version, I’ll have enough confidence that Anthony can make a pretty good mark on it.
