Veteran sci-fi editor DJ Stevenson has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund Shifting, Swirling HERitage — an imaginative short story collection rewriting key historical moments where women trailblazers altered the course of human events.
The compilation features award-winning women authors spinning “what-if” narratives from the space program accepting the Mercury 13 women astronauts decades ago to way back in Britain’s 1st century with the warrior-queen Boudica defeating Roman invaders. The speculative tales underscore the untapped potential of women leaders, inventors, and visionaries.
“This project explores that concept of ‘one small step’ for womankind and the pioneers who reshape entire eras,” said Stevenson. “By picturing these alternate worlds, we hope to inspire current and future generations to carry forward the mantle of positive change.”
The Kickstarter launches February 8th to fund editing, design and early production costs for the July publication.
Contributing authors include SFB’s own Rigel Ailur, Lorraine J. Anderson, Rasana Atreya, Laura Ware, Deborah Daughetee, Dana Fredsti, Rosemary Jones, Donna J. W. Munro, K. Ceres Wright, Shabana Kayum, Marsheila Rockwell, Carrie Harris, Susan Kaye Quinn, Susan Shwartz, and Diana Dru Botsford.
