Deadline is reporting that StudioCanal are working on a reboot of the classic spy-fi series The Avengers.
Industry’s Mickey Down and Konrad Kay have penned the script, with Ben Taylor directing, and Wall to Wall and StudioCanal producing. Deadline’s report has no further details on which of the classic partnerships is being revisited, or whether Steed (as played by Patrick Macnee originally) will have a new colleague for the 2020s version.
The original series of The Avengers spawned a stage play and a sequel series (The New Avengers) as well as the 1998 feature film starring Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman. Audio company Big Finish have produced multiple stories recreating lost episodes and adapting novels and comic strips.
