Robert Butler, who directed the pilots for multiple shows including Star Trek and Batman, has died aged 95.
Having worked with Gene Roddenberry on The Lieutenant, Butler was hired to helm The Cage, the first pilot for Star Trek; a few years later, he directed the opening hour of the Batman TV series, and in the early 1990s he directed the pilot for Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. His other work included episodes of The Twilight Zone, The Invaders and Mission: Impossible, as well as further episodes of Batman, and the movie The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. His Roddenberry connection continued with the TV movie Strange New World, loosely based on some of the Star Trek creator’s ideas.
