Mark Goddard, best known for playing Major Don West on the original Lost in Space, has died aged 87.

The news was announced by his widow, and confirmed in a long post on social media by co-star Bill Mumy. 

His other genre work included the 1983 movie Strange Invaders, and a cameo as the General in the 1998 big screen version of Lost in Space.
