Sir Michael Gambon, star of The Singing Detective and the Harry Potter movies, has died aged 82.
Gambon will probably best be remembered for his role as Dumbledore in the Potter films, but he appeared in numerous genre films and TV series, alongside his successful stage career. Early work included Nothing but the Night and The Beast Must Die, and he appeared in Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Greek Myths, Steven Frears’ Mary Reilly, Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, the 2006 remake of The Omen, the first of Steven Moffat’s Doctor Who Christmas specials, A Christmas Carol, and the Sky horror series Fortitude.
