David McCallum, whose genre career stretched from The Man From UNCLE to Ben 10, has died, a few days after his 90th birthday.
Although perhaps best known to contemporary audiences for his role as Dr Ducky Mallard in the NCIS franchise, McCallum shot to fame as UNCLE agent Illya Kuryakin in the 1960s spy-fi series.
His other main genre credits included the second pilot of The Six Million Dollar Man (Wine Women and War), The Invisible Man and Sapphire and Steel, in which he starred opposite Joanna Lumley. Other genre roles included The Outer Limits, Night Gallery, Frankenstein: The True Story, seaQuest DSV, Babylon 5, Team Knight Rider, Ben 10, and as Alfred Pennyworth in three Batman animated movies.
The sci-fi universe has sadly lost another of its most cherished stars. R.I.P., David, and thank you for Sapphire & Steel and for The Outer Limits: The Sixth Finger.
