American writer and producer Manny Coto – responsible for multiple series from Odyssey 5 to NeXt – has died aged 62.
Coto is probably best remembered for helming the final year of Star Trek: Enterprise, during which the show became the prequel to the original series that many had anticipated from the start. His genre work included creating the Peter Weller / Christopher Gorham series Odyssey 5 and AI drama NeXt, starring John Slattery, as well as executive producing multiple seasons of American Horror Story and American Horror Stories. He wrote for Tales from the Crypt and Tales from the Cryptkeeper, Strange World, and The Exorcist, as well as 14 episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise. His movie work included Playroom, Dr Giggles and Star Kid.
“Manny was an incredibly beloved member of the 20thTelevision and FX family for close to two decades,” 20th Television and FX said in a statement. “He was brilliantly creative with a deep intellectual curiosity, and his loyalty and friendship touched many. He will be immensely missed by all who were fortunate to have known and worked with him over the years, and our sincere condolences go out to his beautiful family at this most difficult time.”
