Pearl, the prequel to last year’s grindhouse horror X, is finally on UK screens – but does it live up to the original?

It’s a solid, entertaining American Gothic melodrama with plenty of gore, but it doesn’t have the bite (pet alligator notwithstanding) of its predecessor.
