Chaim Topol, who starred in a couple of key genre movies in the 1980s, has died aged 87.
Although best known for his work in musicals, notably as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof on stage and screen, Topol made his mark on genre as Dr Hans Zarkov in Mike Hodges’ 1980 extravaganza Flash Gordon, and then in the effective reworking of the Bond franchise, For Your Eyes Only, a year later, as Milos Columbo. He also appeared in an early episode of seaQuest DSV as well as Tales of the Unexpected.
