Renowned British film and TV director Piers Haggard, who helmed The Blood on Satan’s Claw and the final Quatermass TV series, has died, aged 83.

His daughter Daisy confirmed the news on social media. His most famed work was probably Dennis Potter’s Pennies from Heaven in 1978, the year before Quatermass (an edited version of which was also released cinematically worldwide as The Quatermass Conclusion). His other genre work included episodes of Callan, The Fiendish Plot of Dr Fu Manchu, Venom, The Lifeforce Experiment, and three episodes of Gerry Anderson’s Space Precinct.
