Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy, Horror and Spy-fi!

Story details have been revealed for Torchwood: The Last Love Song of Suzie Costello, appropriately due for release on Valentine’s Day 2023.  

An island’s appeared in the North Atlantic Ocean. Suzie Costello comes to investigate and finds a crashed spaceship on the seabed.  Inside the spaceship is a mystery. And also something Suzie has never dreamed of. 

Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Capture, Carnival Row) makes a triumphant return to Big Finish for the first time since 2019’s Torchwood: Sync. In this brand-new full-cast audio drama – an underwater love story written by Big Finish first-timer, Rafaella Marcus – Varma reprises the role of Suzie Costello, second-in-command at Cardiff’s Torchwood Three. 

Varma said: “I love playing Suzie. She can be brittle, sharp and a bit of a loner, but I kind of love her for it. Peeping through all of that bravado and spikiness is a very vulnerable woman who’s looking for love.

“I’m really thrilled that there’s still a Torchwood fanbase and I can’t believe my luck that there’s still a Suzie Costello fanbase. This recording was great fun to do and let’s hope there are more to come in future.”

Joining Indira Varma in the cast in this sci-fi romance is James Backway (The King’s Man) as Anwir, the dashing pilot of a spaceship who catches Suzie’s attention… and doing double duty (as Magda and Orion) is Danielle Kassaraté – stage actor and co-founder of the UK’s first all-black, all-female Shakespeare Company, Mawa Theatre Company.
