Kirstie Alley, who originated the role of Saavik in the Star Trek movies, has died aged 71.
Although best known for her comedy work later in her career, Alley appeared in a number of genre outings as well as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, including John Carpenter’s remake of Village of the Damned, Runaway (written and directed by Michael Crichton), and the 2016 comedy horror TV series Scream Queens.

This is very sad news. I was a fan of Kirstie ever since Star Trek II. R.I.P., Kirstie. 💓
