British-Canadian director Gerald Potterton, who directed the Heavy Metal movie as well as key parts of the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, has died aged 91.

Potterton is best known to genre fans for his work on the film version of the cult SF magazine, but he was also responsible for the animated version of the Oscar Wilde story The Selfish Giant, a cartoon of The Happy Prince, and the titles for the Japanese version of The Wizard of Oz and its sequels.
