Tony Dow, best known to genre fans for his directing work in the 1990s on Star Trek and Babylon 5, has died aged 77.
There was some confusion after his death was prematurely announced on social media, but his family has now confirmed he has passed away. Dow is best known to Americans for his juvenile role in the sitcom Leave It to Beaver, but he moved to the other side of the camera, and helmed five episodes of the original Swamp Thing, as well as five episodes of Babylon 5 and two of its short-lived sequel, Crusade. He also came on board Star Trek for a single episode of Deep Space Nine, Field of Fire. As a visual effects producer, he was credited on four episodes of Babylon 5, as well as the Doctor Who TV Movie starring Paul McGann.
