Harold Livingston, writer of the screenplay for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, has died aged 97.

Livingston had been a founder member of the Israeli Air Force during the country’s 1948 Arab-Israeli War, and turned his hand to screenwriting. His earlier scripts included episodes of Mission: Impossible, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Fantastic Journey, Future Cop and Fantasy Island. His work on Star Trek saw him turn the original teleplay by Alan Dean Foster into a motion picture screenplay.
