B7 Media’s The Effect has won the Gold Award at the New York Festivals Radio Awards 2022.
“Chuffed to bits with this prestigious international accolade for our Audible series, The Effect,” says Andrew Mark Sewell. The 10 part drama was born from a casual conversation with Audible’s then director of programmes Steve Carsey about the Mandela Effect, given narrative flesh by Colin Brake and then developed by lead writers Richard Kurti and Bev Doyle. Other episodes were written by Thandi Lubimbi and Una McCormack.
“We ended up with a taut, intriguing, psychological thriller, where nothing is quite what it seems or you expect. I think it slightly subverts the genre and it’ll also slightly mess with your head. It certainly messed with mine and series producer Helen Quigley’s when it came to scheduling and directing this 10-part series during the challenges of lockdown! Special mention should go to Alistair Lock’s immersive New York soundscapes and of course Anna Phoebe sublimely disturbing score. A real team effort across the board.”
