Doctor Who writer Joy Wilkinson is adapting Kevin J Anderson and Steven L Sears’ graphic novel Stalag X for The Hunger Games’ Francis Lawrence to direct.

The SF tale follows a human soldier captured and kept in a POW camp by aliens who are trying to find out what it means to be human. Sears told Sci-Fi Bulletin, “Kevin and I couldn’t have found a better director, producers, studio, and writer to realize STALAG-X from the page to the screen. The first time we spoke to Francis we knew he understood what STALAG-X was all about.” Wilkinson noted, “Stalag-X has everything I love, from sci-fi action to vivid characters and big ideas. Kevin and Steven have created a thrilling world and I’m excited to bring it to life with Francis’s brilliant cinematic vision.”

New Republic Pictures are producing the movie, with Lawrence telling Deadline, “When I first read Stalag-X, I was immediately drawn to the rich, unique world that Kevin and Steven created. I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Joy to bring their graphic novel to life on screen alongside Brian and Brad, who, as champions of bold storytelling, are the perfect partners for this.”
