Robert Blalack, who was part of the Oscar-winning visual effects team on the original Star Wars, has died aged 73.

A co-founder of ILM, Blalack followed up his work on Star Wars with the 1979 disaster movie Meteor, the  1980 TV series Cosmos, Wolfen, Cat People, and Robocop, with his work on The Day After earning him an Emmy. He also designed effects for Aliens: Ride at the Speed of Fright, a 1996 theme park ride based on the James Cameron movie.
