The DWAS is auctioning a print of Alister Pearson’s artwork for Paul Cornell’s Missing Adventure Goth Opera in aid of Project Motorhouse.
To coincide with the publication of David J Howe’s new book – THE WHO ADVENTURES – about Virgin Publishing’s DOCTOR WHO New and Missing Adventures, DWAS is pleased to offer a unique print of the Fifth Doctor/Nyssa image from the cover of the first of the Missing Adventures: GOTH OPERA by Paul Cornell, published in July 1994.
The artwork by Alister Pearson was painted in November/December 1993 – and this print combines elements from the published cover along with Nyssa’s blood-stained blouse, digitally restored from Alister’s own A3-sized ‘archive print’ of the painting – before it had to be altered in March 1994, prior to publication (see photo).
The print is the same size as the section of the original painting 53.3cm x 21.6cm (21 x 8.5 inches), not including the white border, and features a specially adapted background to make it more suitable as a ‘stand-alone’ image. All digital work was carried out by Alister’s colleague David Lavelle. Please note: the skin tones have deliberately been toned down in the print at Alister’s request.
The print is signed by both Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton (see photos). All proceeds from this auction will be donated to a charity of their choice, namely PROJECT MOTORHOUSE, a Ramsgate-based charity for which Janet Fielding acts as Community Champion.
The print can be also be signed (and dedicated) by Alister on request.
It will be posted, rolled, in a sturdy 4-inch-diameter card tube.
Bids can be made here; as of 0900 on January 3rd, the bid was just under £200. It ends at 5.45 pm on January 9th.
THE WHO ADVENTURES is available from Telos Publishing.
