George R R Martin is not just working on his new novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire cycle and the Game of Thrones TV prequels, but has produced a new SF movie, Night of the Cooters, about an alien invasion of Texas.
The film stars and isdirected by Vincent D’Onofrio from a screenplay by Joe Lansdale based on the short story by Howard Waldrop. Martin described the 30 minute short as “shot with a combination of live action and state-of-the-art animation”.
D’Onofrio plays Sheriff Lindley, with Hopper Penn as Sweets, Harrison Page as Luther, Martin Sensmeier as Leo Smith, Cristin McCleary as Atkins, Elias Gallegos as DeSpain, Luce Rains as Skip, Jazzy Kim O’Brien as Lil’ Chisum, and Darius Eteeyan as Billy Strother. Trioscope Studios are providing the animation. Principal photography is complete, but as yet there’s no indication where it will appear.
