I think originally I wanted to set it in the 70s in part because that just felt, to me, like a time when feasibly it could have happened. There were interests in shaking up old patterns and these old rhythms. There were a lot of communities and there was the Back-to-the-Land movement so it felt like if it was going to happen, it probably would have happened in the 70s when women would have felt like this was something that they could pursue, when it felt like there was a certain level of possibility in the air.
