Star Trek supremo Alex Kurtzman, who recently signed a major new deal to oversee the Star Trek universe for the next five years, has confirmed that a Starfleet Academy series is one of the shows in development. alongside the much mooted Section 31 show centred on Michelle Yeoh’s Georgiou.

Speaking to the New York Times, Kurtzman noted, “I think we’re just getting started. There’s just so much more to be had.” According to the article, the Starfleet Academy show would be aimed at a younger audience, but it’s not clear if that means it would go the animated route of Star Trek Prodigy.

Starfleet Academy featured in the 2009 feature film that Kurtzman co-wrote; a story set there had been contemplated for an earlier Star Trek movie. The 09 film spawned a short series of novels expanding the movie’s coverage.
