William F. Nolan, the prolific SF author who co-created Logan’s Run, has died aged 93.
Initially an artist, before selling his first story The Darendinger Build-Up to Playboy, Nolan was probably best known outside the genre for the novel, co-written with George Clayton Johnson, that introduced Logan and the Sandmen. He went on to write further stories in the same universe.
In all he published over 1,500 works of fiction and non-fiction as writer or editor, and was a key part of the Southern California Group of writers, that included Ray Bradbury, CharlesBeaumont, and Richard Matheson. His screen work included the pilot for the short-lived CBS version of Logan’s Run.
