Noah Hawley has confirmed that his new Alien TV series will not be based around Ellen Ripley – “she’s one of the great characters of all time and I think the story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don’t want to mess with it.”

The FX show is set to start shooting in spring 2022, set not too far into our future and will tell the first Alien story on Earth. “The Alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a spaceship,” he told Vanity Fair. “I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What happens if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate.”

No word as yet on casting or directors, although Hawley has the first two scripts completed.
