The latest Transformers movie, just entering production, will be Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Paramount confirmed the title at a virtual press conference.  The film is set in 1994 with locations ranging from  New York to Machu Pichu, and will see the different Transformers as seen in the 1990s cartoon series.

“There are different breeds of Transformers,” said director Steven Caple jnr. “In our particular film, they are prehistoric animals who travel through time and space, and we find them here on Earth.” Optimus Prime, voiced by Peter Cullen, will be the leader of the “good” Transformers.

“The Predacons in our film are more reptilian in nature. We’ve seen a few in other Transformers films, but [now] we get to see another side of them,” added Caple. “It’s all about building a backstory to these characters, and we’ll see that more on the Predacon and Terracon side.”

“You’re going to see villains you’ve never seen, Autobots you’ve never seen, elements we’ve never done before,” noted producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura. “One of the driving decisions along the way is, ‘Have we done that before?’ whether that’s an action scene or a character.”

The movie is set for release in June 2022.
