Universal and Working Title are preparing a modern retelling of Mary Norton’s classic children’s fantasy tale The Borrowers.

Deadline is reporting that Patrick Burleigh has penned the script, with Conrad Vernon set to direct. The story of a group of tiny people who live in the walls and floors of an old English house was last dramatised for the big screen in 1997 with John Goodman and Jim Broadbent, while a TV version appeared in 2011 with Christopher Eccleston, Victoria Wood and Stephen Fry.
