Wonder Woman writer Joye Hummel Murchison Kelly has passed away, aged 97.
One of the writers of the original comic strip, her contributions were published under the house name “Charles Moulton”, and according to an obituary at the Washington Post, she was the first woman to do so. She left comic book writing after the Second World War, but her work was recognised by Jill Leopore in her book on the history of Wonder Woman. In 2018, she was awarded the Bill Finger Award for Excellence in Comic Book Writing at the Eisner Awards in Florida.
After impressing Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston, she became his assistant and gradually moved into creating scripts. Her first full story was The Winged Maidens of Venus in 1945.
