Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza will be starring in Bingo, one of the next tranche of Welcome to the Blumhouse films for Amazon.
Gigi Saul Guerrero is directing and co-wrote the script with Shane McKenzie and Perry Blackshear. According to Deadline, the movie is set in the barrio of Oak Springs, and follows a “strong and stubborn group of elderly friends who refuse to be gentrified. Barraza plays the leader of the pack, Lupita, a “chingona” (aka bad ass) who grew up in the neighbourhood formerly filled with crime and dangerous characters. Lupita has dedicated her life to cleaning up the neighbourhood and creating a community the residents could be proud to call home. Little does Lupita and her friends know, their beloved bingo hall is about to be sold to a much more powerful force than money itself.”
Barraza has a long career on stage and screen including most recently Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and is a major casting coup for the series.
