Angel Manuel Soto will be directing the DC movie centred on Blue Beetle.
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer’s script follows the third person to use the title, Jaime Reyes, making the film the first superhero feature to have a Latino lead.
“It is an honour to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC,” said Soto told the Wrap. “I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can’t wait to make history together.”
The character has previously appeared on screen in the animated Young Justice series.
