Spiteful Puppet are releasing a new Robin of Sherwood novel next month, penned by Doctor Who author, script editor and producer Gary Russell.

Here Be Dragons is set during the second season of Robin of Sherwood. “Having loved Robin of Sherwood for decades, plus having been a fan of Richard Carpenter even longer, I’m flattered and honoured to have asked to do this novel and take Robin on a journey to realms he’s previously not explored,” Russell told Sci-Fi Bulletin, with range editor Barnaby Eaton-Jones adding, “It’s been a genuine joy to lead Gary into Sherwood Forest and make him join our merry band. He’s a writer I’ve long admired and just such a talented swine that I actually originally approached him about one of our Robin of Sherwood full-cast audio – which I’ve been lucky enough to produce alongside the books. He wrote a magical script but we weren’t able to use it at the time, which meant I could then pester him to rework it as a novel in our ongoing range. He did. And it’s brilliant.”

Many centuries ago, before Robin, before King Richard and Prince John, before even Herne the Hunter, there was Sherwood Forest.  And at the heart of it, mystical paths were drawn together to protect the future.
But something or someone in Robin’s time has chosen now to make a stand and destroy the past, the present and the future; with the help of the dragons, the ancient beasts of legend. And it will take a true hero to stop them.
Alone and bewildered, Robin must put right a blood-debt he had no idea had even been raised. And who will fight at his side?
Should he fail, Sherwood will merely be the first loss that England will face… and not the last…

Chinbeard Books are publishing the story in association with Spiteful Puppet, with thanks to the Richard Carpenter Estate.

It can be ordered here.
