Venerable Canadian actor Christopher Plummer has died aged 91.

He had a long career on stage and screen, but was probably best remembered for his role as Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music (or The Sound of Mucus) as he described it. He made various genre appearances, most notably as General Chang in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. He also appeared as the Emperor in the 1978 Starcrash, and as Sherlock Holmes in Murder by Decree. Other genre roles included Somewhere in Time, Dreamscape, Vampire in Venice, Wolf, Dracula 2000, National Treasure and The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus.

He also lent his voice to various projects, including the Howard Lovecraft series of animated movies.
