The Queen’s Gambit’s Scott Frank is turning his attention to priests and extra-terrestrials for his next project – an adaptation of Mary Doria Russell’s award winning 1996 novel The Sparrow for FX.

The book tells of a group of Jesuit priests secretly sent by the Vatican to make contact with aliens after a first contact – but things go wrong on the mission and only one priest returns.

Chernobyl’s Johan Renck will direct from scripts by Frank. No prospective casting has been announced.
