Marvel now feel confident to announce the next stage of their Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Following on from Black Widow (delayed a year because of the coronavirus pandemic), Shang-Chi (due in July) and The Eternals (coming in November), we will see:
Spider-Man director Jon Watts is overseeing a new version of the Fantastic Four, bringing them into the MCU for the first time. Previous feature films included a Roger Corman version that never was officially released; two films directed by Tim Story in the 2000s, and the ill-fated Josh Trank movie from 2015.
Black Panther 2 is coming in July 2022; Kevin Feige confirmed that Chadwick Boseman’s role as T’Challa is not being recast, Ryan Coogler is directing the sequel. “I wanted to acknowledge the devastating loss of a dear friend and member of the Marvel Studios family,” Feige said. “Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally. His portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past. To honour the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the king of Wakanda, we want to continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.”
The third Ant-Man film will be titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Freaky star Kathryn Newton will play Cassie Lang, daughter of Scott Lang/Ant-Man. Jonathan Majors will be playing Kang the Conqueror.
Thor: Love and Thunder will see Christian Bale playing Gorr the God Butcher.
Iman Vellani who plays New Jersey teenager Kamala Khan in the Disney+ series Ms Marvel will co-star in Captain Marvel II, along with Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris, who plays the adult Monica Rambeau in WandaVision.
